The PAF R&D Setups, Rawalpindi is hiring skilled engineers and developers for cutting-edge unmanned systems and sensing projects. Openings include Miniature Drone Developer & Integrator (2 posts), Drone Designer (1 post), Optical System Developer (1 post), and Software/Computer Vision Developer (3 posts). These are full-time roles within a research-and-development environment focused on miniature drones, embedded software, optical and thermal sensing, and machine-learning–based perception. Miniature Drone Developer & Integrator (02 Posts)

Implement control loops (attitude, position, velocity) on embedded flight computers and SBCs.

Integrate sensors (IMU, barometer, optical flow, GPS, magnetometer) through ROS nodes and custom drivers.

Build and tune Simulink models for system identification and flight-control prototyping; translate models into deployable code.

Develop test harnesses in Python/C#; ensure robust telemetryfailsafe, and diagnostics.

Collaborate with airframe and payload teams to validate hover stabilitywaypoint tracking, and endurance targets.

Nice-to-have: PX4/ArduPilot familiarity, MAVLink, CAN/UART protocols, SLAM basics, and field-testing exposure.

2) Drone Designer (01 Post)

Create CAD assemblies for miniature UAVs with focus on weight distribution, stiffness, manufacturability, and serviceability.

Conduct CFD to improve propulsive efficiency and cooling airflow; run structural simulations for vibration and landing-impact scenarios.

Prepare shop-ready drawings, tolerances, and BOMs; support vendor development (3D printing, CNC, carbon composites).

Work closely with electronics and payload engineers to ensure clearancesEMI safety, and maintenance considerations.

Nice-to-have: Experience with Siemens NX/SolidWorks/Inventor, composite lay-up, DFMA, and flight-test instrumentation mounts.

3) Optical System Developer (01 Post)

Architect laser and optical sensing setups for tracking, ranging, and thermal measurement.

Perform ray tracing (e.g., in Zemax OpticStudio) for lens selection, FOV, spot size, and aberration management.

Design calibration procedures for radiometric and geometric accuracy; integrate optics with camera sensors and thermal modules.

Implement MATLAB/Python scripts for data reduction, noise modeling, and optimization of SNR and dynamic range.

Nice-to-have: Experience with fiber coupling, safety classification for lasers, IR windows, coatings, and heat-signature modeling.

4) Software / Computer Vision Developer (03 Posts)

Build image-processing and machine-learning pipelines for detection, classification, and multi-object tracking.

Implement real-time inference on SBCs using optimized libraries; design socket-based telemetry and health monitoring.

Create front-end dashboards and database schemas (MS SQL/MySQL) for mission playback, annotation, and analytics.

Collaborate with optical and control teams to align frame ratesexposure, and latency with flight constraints.

Nice-to-have: Experience with OpenCV, frameworks for deep learning, data labeling tools, and embedded acceleration (CUDA/NEON/VNNI).
